Dr. Deanna is committed to assessing and treating menopausal symptoms in specific ways to help her patients thrive and achieve optimal health. There are 4 main areas that she aims to support including lifestyle factors, dietary counselling, targeted supplementation and hormone therapy (if needed).

Lifestyle Factors

Physical activity: There is a significant reduction in bone mineral density during the menopausal transition. There is also an increase in fat mass and reduction in muscle mass which often accompanies weight gain. In knowing this, physical activity becomes integral to mitigate these changes. We will discuss the type and quantity of physical activity that is best to keep you strong and strategies to keep you accountable.

Stress and mental health: Stress resiliency often declines in the menopausal transition. Without change our stressors can often accompany mental health changes. We discuss things impacting your stress and mental health and strategies to lessen these.

Dietary Counselling

Weight gain: Weight gain is very common during the menopausal transition. This due to the increase in fat mass and reduction in muscle mass, leading to a decrease in metabolism. A healthy diet with adequate protein, adequate fibre and minimal refined carbohydrates are essential to mitigate these changes.

Cardiovascular health: Women often experience an increase in risk factors for cardiovascular disease such as increases in cholesterol. Proven diets to support heart health will be discussed.

Targeted Supplementation

Symptom management: Specific supplements can be recommended to address hot flashes, sleep disruption, anxiety/depression, fatigue, vaginal dryness etc.

Disease prevention: Supplements can be recommended as preventive measure to prevent illness and promote healthy aging.
